In the series of ongoing improvements to the Microsoft Teams meeting and collaboration environment, Microsoft has added a new feature that intelligently suppresses background noise. Thankfully, artificial intelligence comes to the rescue one more time. Having meetings in noisy environments is a challenge. I know people who conduct meetings from the bathroom or a small room off their kitchen. Plus, now that we have a dog, things are even noisier. When I work from our small house, I sometimes have to compete with my wife, who teaches ballet and Parkinson’s movement classes at a distance. Finding a place where we can have some peace and quiet is sometimes challenging. We now, more than ever, endeavor to catch an online meeting anywhere we are–a lot of us at home but some others on the road. It has been a year since we started marching into this new work life. You will impress them with all this useful information aimed at making your digital life more productive and enjoyable. Not only will this series help you stay on top of all things Microsoft 365, but it will also make you a star among your colleagues. So I’d urge you to try out all of the settings and pick the one that suits your environment.¡Hola! Welcome to our second installment of a series of posts about Microsoft 365. I do occasionally answer with a speakerphone, especially on days where I am in a lot of meetings and wearing headphones all day. I also have noise cancelling headphones which I use most of the time so I don’t feel I need to use this feature that often. I have a Surface Laptop 3 and it copes with most things pretty well. So be aware if you have a slower machine. And having it switched on in any case could make Teams more hungry than it often already is. As it says above, high requires an AVX2 capable processor like background blur and replace. They also note that if your device is using too much of its resources during a call, the setting may fall back to Low. Use this setting for high-fidelity microphones in low noise environments. Enabling this option uses more computer resources. For this option, your computer’s processor must support Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2).High Suppresses all background sound that isn’t speech.Low Suppresses low levels of persistent background noise, such as a computer fan or air conditioner.Auto (default) The Teams app decides on the best level of noise suppression based on local noise. They say that it helps minimise distraction of noise around you such as “shuffling papers, slamming doors, barking dogs, and so on”Īnd it offers 3 levels of noise suppression Microsoft added a link to the settings page here. And it barely registered my noisy squeaky chair (which I really need to WD40). It could hear when I was banging on the desk with a closed fist, but it wasn’t that loud I don’t think. This is a useful feature for anyone using a speakerphone or non-noise cancelling headphones with Teams. Ultra quick post today on a new feature in the Teams Desktop Client.
